Day 3: El Centro, California to Welton, Arizona

Another hot day at the finish. More time on I-8. Another recovery milkshake. Settling into a pattern, I guess.

The last climb before Welton looks more imposing than it is due to the graph’s scale. I don’t think it got above 3%. You’d think that we’d stay in Yuma, with more lodging and dining options. But that would make the following day’s ride too long. Luckily there is one hotel in Welton but the brewpub/pizza joint near it is not open on Tuesdays. So we had Mexican food two nights in a row.

The rule in California is that we cannot ride on the Interstate unless there is no other road available. Thus we had to exit I-8 between Ogilby and Sidewinder Roads to ride on this horrible excuse for pavement:
