Day 24 – Savannah, GA to Brunswick, GA

81 miles, 570 feet of climbing

Another essentially flat day, much of it spent on Highway 17 south. The roads in Georgia are better than South Carolina’s, leaving only Florida to compete for the worst roads crown.A couple bouts of rain, another chain cleaning and these photos:

Some of the roads were light on shoulders to ride. This one wasn’t the worst we’ve ridden–those were when the rumble strip takes up nearly all of the space between the white line and the grass.

After getting into Brunswick, Melanie and I took the rental car to its downtown core (we were staying out by I-95, where hotels seem to sprout).

In the evening we had dinner at the nearby Cracker Barrel and then went back to the hotel to celebrate the ride. Everyone thanked Mike, Karen, Judy, and Pam for their excellent support. Mike played a slide show of many of the photos he took during the tour. We toasted ourselves with some local rum.
